God delights in being your Saviour

Have you ever experienced a season where you're dragging your feet into a meeting, into church or even into your own household? Chances are that we all have. In times where we lose passion for what we do, we can look to the cross and be reminded how passionate Jesus was for us that He would lay His life down for our sins.

There is an epidemic spreading all across America today that is causing people to lose vibrance and heart in what they do. As a result, people are going through everyday motions with a lack of passion. Is this okay with God?

While I want to be clear that it's not a sin to lack passion, I also do not find peace in myself that God is okay with leaving us passionless and tired. Why do so many people face life with a lack of passion? Because, just like trust, passion can be broken when things are disappointing. That's why it's important to to put your passion in something that's really worth sacrificing for.

God goes out of His way to call us to put our passion in Him, and He assures us that as we do that, we will never run dry. Psalm 37:4 tells us, "Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart" (NIV). A burning passion for God will never return empty and unfruitful. That's not to say that being passionate for God will always be easy. Passion by its very nature calls for sacrifice, but having a passion primarily for God will always be worth it.

We can be passionate for Jesus because He was most passionate for all of us. Romans 5:8 says, "but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (ESV). Jesus may have found it difficult to die on a cross for you. Who wouldn't? Yes, He wrestled with the thought, wept before the Father and battled with the enemy for it, but He was passionate about it.

Jesus loves being our Saviour. He doesn't drag Himself to come and save the day. He comes willingly and excitedly to rescue you out of your fears, anxieties, circumstances and sins. He loves you and is excited about you. If God's that excited about us, how much more then should we be excited about Him and about doing things for Him?

I will admit that there are days I walk with a cloud above my head, but the moment I am reminded of Christ and how He willingly and vibrantly loves me, that cloud seems to fade away. It's no different for you today. If you're bored or tired and you're dragging yourself around with a lack of passion, look to the passion Jesus has for you and let that change your perspective.
