'Frozen 2' release date, plot news: Conflict centers on vengeful Anna; Flynn Rider, Jack Frost as Elsa's love interests

The sequel to the blockbuster Disney animation movie "Frozen" was announced in March, and fans could not be more excited for the return of Elsa, Anna, and the gang.

Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios' Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter announced the good news during a shareholder's meeting in San Francisco. According to him, the producers, Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, had thoroughly enjoyed making the seven-minute short "Frozen Fever" and could not wait to write a sequel.

Plots on Elsa's love interest and Anna conflict on "Frozen 2" continue to hound the Internet.Facebook/Disney

In an interview with MTV News, Buck said that they are currently working on the story. Although they already have "an overall idea" on what the sequel would be about, he did not give other details aside from the fact that the sisters would still be the highlight of "Frozen 2."

While that tidbit slightly appeased the fans, other sites began to postulate plots and character spoilers that would keep everyone speculating before the movie premiere, which is reportedly set for 2018. Movie Pilot posited that since the Disney film bore a striking resemblance to Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale "The Snow Queen," what happened to the character Kai could also happen to Anna.

In the story, Kai's heart was "accidentally infected" by splinters of the mirror created by the evil troll. He became aggressive and cruel and was later tricked by the Snow Queen to live in the palace with her. Gerda then came to his rescue, kissed him, and melted his frozen heart.

While the concept of a frozen heart was also in "Frozen," the movie did not dwell on the attitude effect it could have on Anna. The website suggested that perhaps, the producers may use the said plot for the sequel. That instead of forgiving Elsa, Anna would end up resenting her.

Hatred could fill Anna's heart, causing her to break away from her friends, only seeing their "ugly and bad side." Cruelty could envelope her heart, pushing her to find solace from the villains in the story and become one of them.

Meanwhile, another plot that fans have been curious about is the possible romantic relationship of Elsa. As the Queen of Arendelle, it is expected of her to find a consort. Many names have come up as her potential suitors, but the two who top the list, according to Movie News Guide, are Flynn Rider of "Tangled" and Jack Frost of "Rise of the Guardians."

The kind-hearted thief from the other hit Disney movie could very well charm his way to Elsa's heart. His long list of talents includes horseback riding, scaling high walls and towers, and his "superhuman good looks," among others. But as he is already married to Rapunzel, this pairing seems a bit impossible. Then there's Jack Frost. With powers similar to Elsa's, this appears to be a match made in heaven, or in snow, for that matter.
