Earlier this year, it was announced that directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee are working on the sequel to "Frozen," the 2013 Disney animated film that smashed records worldwide and became one of the company's most lucrative franchises. Though there has been very little news about "Frozen 2" since it was announced at the Walt Disney Co.'s annual shareholders meeting last March, there has been a lot of speculation about the film's plot.

Buck said that fans can expect a different side of Elsa in the sequel, which means that a funnier, lighter Elsa will be appearing in "Frozen 2," quite similar to the doting and fun sister that she was in the short, "Frozen Fever."

"[In 'Frozen'] she had such a dramatic journey, and at the end she's just starting to feel like she can open up and have some fun again," Buck said to Fandango. "That's what was really good about the short—we could have fun with Elsa. And that personality…you will see in the next one."

Moviepilot claims that there are going to be some flashbacks, which will see a young Elsa. The flashbacks could probably explain how the young princess' powers manifested and how her parents came to be aware of it. In the first film, it can be recalled that her father told the leader of the trolls that Elsa was born with the power and not cursed with it, so viewers will most likely know when Elsa and Anna's parents knew that their eldest daughter had the power to freeze everything in sight.

With regard to where production is at the moment, the writing process has officially begun, and while the story isn't planned out yet, Buck said that the ending is "terrific."

The original cast members Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad are expected to return to the sequel. A release date for "Frozen 2" has yet to be announced.
