Reverend Franklin Graham is commending the mayor of Wilmore, Kentucky for resisting efforts by an atheist group to remove a cross from a water tower in the city.

"The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) is at it again. Reaching in from another state, they're trying to intimidate the City of Wilmore, Kentucky, into taking down a cross that has stood on top of their water tower for years," Graham wrote on his Facebook page. "But the mayor and townspeople are standing their ground."

Graham is extremely proud of the way Mayor Harold Rainwater is holding his ground against the atheists. "There's a groundswell of support to keep [the cross] and I'm certainly going to fight to keep it with everything I've got," Rainwater was quoted as saying. "I think it's symbolic of our town. I, one-hundred-percent, support keeping it there. We won't take it down unless we're forced to take it down," the mayor added.

"Way to go Mayor Rainwater! These anti-god activists are trying to get their way against the will of the people. Let's pray that they get nowhere!" Graham said.

Earlier, the FFRF succeeded in forcing the removal of the Ten Commandments monument on the Oklahoma State Capitol grounds, an action condemned by Graham and other devout Christians.

The rallies will be held in all 50 states of the union with the organisers hoping that they will help in curbing America's moral, spiritual, and political decay.

"God hears the prayers of his people, so I'm calling on people of faith in every state to pray fervently for America and our leaders. I want to challenge Christians across our land to boldly live out and promote biblical principles at home, in public and at the ballot box. The only hope for this country is if the people of God are willing to take a stand for truth and righteousness," said Graham.
