"The Flash" season 2 will see Iris West reeling from the pain of losing her man, Eddie Thawne, after he sacrificed his life to stop the Reverse Flash. The journalist will try to cope by devoting herself to helping Barry and the STAR Labs team sweep the streets of Central City from crime. 

Iris seems to be very good with coping and dealing with loss. Executive producer Gabrielle Stanton told TV Line that Iris recognizes that Eddie would want her to be happy and so, instead of giving up on life, she strives to become the "woman that she knows Eddie would have wanted her to be." 

Without Harrison Wells to lead the team, Iris makes it her duty to virtually take on the responsibility.

"Iris slides into [the role] very naturally," executive producer Andrew Kreisberg told Entertainment Weekly. "She's a born leader." 

But Barry will be a "lone wolf" in "The Flash" season 2 when it comes to fighting the bad guys, as he doesn't want any more of his loved ones to be put in danger or to take the fall. He feels bad that Eddie had to die. Add to that the fact that he is given the credit Eddie should actually be getting. 

"One of the best things in the premiere is Barry decides that he wants to work alone because he doesn't want to risk anyone else's lives, and Iris is really the one who gets the band back together again," Kreisberg said. "She's the only one who can stand up to Barry." 

Meanwhile, "The Flash" season 2 will be big on honoring its source material, with more characters from the comic books coming to the series and the introduction of alternate dimensions, new speedsters and multiverses. A new promo for Australia network FOX 8 shows the Scarlet Speedster with blue electricity effect instead of the usual yellow.

"The Flash" season 2 premieres on Oct. 6.
