With only two episodes left in the second season of "Finding Carter," MTV decided to extend the show by ordering an additional 12 episodes this year. The official announcement came Monday in the form of a YouTube video, made by actor Alex Saxon who portrays the role of Carter's (Kathryn Prescott) best friend Max.

"Hey guys I have some amazing news, Finding Carter has been picked up for 12 more episodes and we couldn't have done it without you," Saxon said in his best Max impersonation.

MTV's move means the show's sophomore season will have a total of 24 episodes this year, which is twice as many as the series' inaugural season.

This is not the first time that MTV made a midseason move to prolong the length of their original series. Earlier, the cable network doubled their season 2 order for their hit comedy show "Faking It," which is a repeat of their move when they increased the episode order for "Awkward" back in 2011.

Other basic broadcast networks seem to be picking up the same style as MTV, featuring split season runs of some of their shows in which a midseason hiatus for the winter season has become common practice.

The second season of "Finding Carter" is proving to be more exciting than ever. More shocking revelations are taking place within the show, including the alleged affair between Carter's captor Lori (Milena Govich) and her biological father David (Alexis Denisof), Lori's real role in Carter and Taylor's life, the return of Carter's troubled ex-boyfriend Crash (Cameron Ruminer), Taylor's developing penchant for the pill, as well as the dwindling status of the marriage between Carter's parents David and Elizabeth (Cynthia Watros).

The second part of "Finding Carter" season 2 is expected to air later this year, while the midseason finale titled "Rumour Has It" is expected to air in June.
