'Final Fantasy 15' release date news: PC release date teased by developers

"Final Fantasy XV" is scheduled to launch for consoles this coming Sept. 30 but it has been long rumored that a PC version may soon follow, given how Square-Enix is releasing all of their previous "Final Fantasy" games on Steam. Speaking to Kotaku, "Final Fantasy XV" director Hajime Tabata confirmed that a PC version may indeed happen.

According to Tabata, fans can expect a PC port to be released but this may take some time. He did confirm that a PC port will not launch simultaneously with the console versions. Tabata further explained that the PS4 and Xbox One versions are the main priority and optimizing the game for these versions are their main concerns right now.

"Until we've got the console versions finished, we really aren't gonna think anymore about that," stated Tabata. "That really is our top priority and one thing we're not gonna bend on is getting those console versions finished on time. We don't want to be making excuses. We don't want to be having regrets. We want to get these out and done in time."

He also explained that the developers were not going to cut anything despite how it affects their work polishing and optimization process. He pointed out that fans have been waiting for the game for more than a decade, since the game was announced as "Final Fantasy versus XIII," and that it would be a disservice to cut things from the game just to get it out early.

Other than a potential PC release, Tabata did state that he would like to optimize the game for the more powerful Playstation Neo and the Xbox One Scorpio given how these can take full advantage of 4K televisions. He did confirm that he was not even aware of the Scorpio's existence until Microsoft unveiled it during this year's E3.
