With Duggar supporters and bashers continuing to air their disparate views regarding the accusations hurled against Jim Bob and Michelle's eldest son Josh Duggar, ESPN radio personality Tony Kornkeiser has joined the supporting side and defended the embattled Duggar.

Speaking during "The Tony Kornheiser Show," the radio personality said he believes the Duggar family is "a very politically astute family."

While he does not condone Josh's past behavior, he could not understand why a lot of people are bent on destroying his reputation over something that has occurred and been dealt with 12 years ago.

"I'm not even sure that it's reasonable for this guy to be driven from his job," he said. "Wasn't it addressed a while back? And the only reason he's quitting his job now is because it became public."

At the same time, Kornheiser said it does not make sense for people to deem Josh a liar simply because he did not reveal the skeletons in his closet earlier on. The radio personality stressed that the Duggar family has the right to address the situation privately.

"You don't have to go out and confess everything you have ever done to everyone in the world!" he exclaimed. "He was a kid!"

Since the news surfaced, only Jim Bob, Michelle, Josh, and Anna have offered their statements regarding the controversy, while the rest of the family have opted to keep mum about it.

"We pray that as people watch our lives they see that we are not a perfect family. We have challenges and struggles every day. It is one of the reasons we treasure our faith so much because God's kindness and goodness and forgiveness are extended to us — even though we are so undeserving," Jim Bob and Michelle wrote about the incident.

Josh, for his part, called his past actions "inexcusable" and has resigned from his position at the Family Research Council. The timing of the scandal could not be more difficult for Josh and his wife Anna especially since she is now carrying their fourth child, a daughter.
