This game could easily go either way, with England being the slight favorites due to their higher World Ranking, but Canada having the edge by being the host nation and being able to play in front of thousands of fanatical home fans.

Even though England have a strong ranking by FIFA it must be remembered that they only won their first ever Women's World Cup knock out game earlier this week in the Round of 16. In all previous World Cups they have been unable to progress once the knock out stages have begun, being sent home repeatedly in the quarter finals stage.

However, with their first World Cup knock out stage win under their belts they should now have confidence to progress even further, although playing the host nation is always a huge challenge.

England had a tough start to their World Cup campaign, playing No. 3 ranked France in their opening game. Although they fought hard, France came out on top with a 1-0 win, putting pressure on the England team right away to ensure they got results in their remaining two group games.

However, they responded to the pressure well, and claimed 2-1 wins over Mexico and Colombia in their final two group games to progress from a tough group in second place.

In the Round of 16 they were drawn against a strong Norway team, and had to really show character when they went 1-0 down in the second half. But again they showed resolve to bounce back and two excellent goals later they managed to win their first World Cup knock out game 2-1 to get through to today's game.

Hosts Canada meanwhile kick started their campaign with a 1-0 win over China, before drawing 0-0 with New Zealand and 1-1 with the Netherlands. A Round of 16 victory over Switzerland 1-0 has seen them progress to today's game and they will be quietly confident that can upset England and get through to the semi-final.

Canada's defense has been their most impressive area of the game so far in this tournament, conceding just one goal in four games to date. Their attack is one area they need to improve upon though, and they have scored less than a goal per game in the World Cup so far.

The winner of today's game will move through to a semi-final against either Japan or Australia, who play in the earlier quarter final kick off on Saturday.

Australia have been a joy to watch at this year's tournament. They got their World Cup off to a tough start, losing to the United States 1-3 to leave their qualification in doubt. However, they bounced back in their second game by defeating Africa's top team, Nigeria, 2-0 helping to lift confidence in the camp.

A 1-1 draw with Sweden in their last group game was well deserved after a hard fought battle with the very talented European team.

If their accomplishments in the group stages were admirable and hard earned, their achievement in the Round of 16 was simply spectacular, defeating Brazil 1-0 to spark one of the biggest upsets of the tournament so far.

That result will give them confidence that they can compete against Japan today, and if they can keep things tight then the will believe, just like against Brazil, that they can sneak a winner.

Japan though have had a very solid World Cup so far, and have lived up to their billing as one of the best technical teams in the tournament. They are solid in defense and patient going forward, keeping the ball well and passing confidently to create openings in opposition defenses.

The reigning World Cup champs started their tournament with a 1-0 win over Switzerland, before overcoming a very dynamic and tough Cameroon team 2-1.

They ensured they finished the group stages with a perfect record by defeating Ecuador 1-0, and in the Round of 16 they ran out 2-1 winners against the Netherlands.

Australia may find it extremely tough to break down this Japanese team, and will likely have to soak up a lot of pressure from the World champs and try and hit Japan more on the counter or through set pieces.
