In a shocking revelation, Duck Dynasty's Miss Kay has admitted that she and patriarch Phil Robertson had their first child before they were married.

Revealed in a candid interview with Us Weekly, it transpires that Alan Robertson, who also features on the family's hit A&E reality show, was born before his parents were officially wed.

"Well, this is the first time I've shared this, aside from giving my testimony [in church]," Miss Kay told Us.

"When I made a vow to God and to [Phil], it was March 22, 1964, [but] it wasn't legal. That's the truth. We didn't do the legal papers until April 11, 1968, after Alan, my oldest, was born. Alan says, 'Yeah, I would be the B [bastard] in the family.'"

The Robertson family are famed for their home-grown business, 'Duck Commander', which makes a staggering $45 million a year. They are also well known, however, for their Christian beliefs, and often speak out about their faith in the public sphere.

Phil was suspended from the show in December last year after making what were considered to be homophobic comments in GQ magazine, but was later reinstated by the network.

It is somewhat of a surprise, therefore, that Miss Kay and Phil had a child before marriage; they said their original vows when Miss Kay was just 16.

"But I want to tell you something," Miss Kay added.

"My heart and my vow to God was true from the first day..."I love that he [Phil] is a man's man and a take-charge guy, but what's not talked about is how kind, gentle, and good he is. I can't tell you how many times he's fixed me breakfast in bed."

She also shared that the family now laugh about their unconventional start to married life. "People ask, 'When was your mama's wedding?' and the boys say, 'Which, the pioneer wedding or the regular wedding?'"
