The sixth and final season of ITV's "Downton Abbey" is currently being filmed in the U.K., but fans are already eager to find out the fate of the Crawleys and the rest of the estate's staff at the end of the period drama.

While the network remains mum about the plot for "Downton Abbey" season 6, fans of the show are hoping to see their favorite characters get the happy ending that they deserve. Since it has been announced that the series finale will coincide with the show's traditional Christmas special, most of them believe that a light and happy conclusion will be suitable for the holiday season.

Huffington Post recently mentioned that if there is one character in the show who deserves to find love, it should be the ever-conniving and malicious underbutler Thomas Barrow (Rob James-Collier). Since the series was set in the age where homosexuality was still taboo, it would be hard to imagine Mr. Barrow coming out and openly seeking for a mate. But it would be nice to see him with someone to make him less of a villain.

Fans also want to see Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) choosing from among her suitors before the series ends. The eldest daughter of Lord and Lady Grantham has been very unfortunate in her love affairs since the start of the series, with the death of her husband Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens), and her never-ending confusion regarding her choice from among her suitors. By the end of the series, fans of the show would want to see her have a partner for a long time.

Also, "Downton Abbey" fans believe that the estate's butler Mr. Carson (Jim Carter) and Mrs. Hughes (Pyllis Logan) will have one of the happiest endings in the series. By the end of last year's Christmas special, Mr. Carson asked for the housekeeper's hand in marriage. Mrs. Hughes accepted the proposal, and viewers are excited to see at least one couple getting their happily ever after.

"Downton Abbey" season 6 is expected to air in ITV later this year, and U.S. fans can watch the show on PBS.
