The Devious Maids will not be gone for long.

The American soap opera drama has been on hiatus for two months after its season two finale, but Lifetime Channel decided to pick up the series for another 13-episode third season, scheduled to air next year.

It took quite a while before the network and series showrunner Marc Cherry decided to bring the show back for season three. The delay, however, has nothing to do with the show's ratings, since it managed to rake in high ratings for the last two seasons.

The comeback of the series was halted because of Cherry's reluctance to return as the sole showrunner. According to the same genius who created "Desperate Housewives," he has to think twice about the burden of full-time showrunning. He also said that he is already getting old for the job. The series will now have seasoned showrunner Ric Swartzlander from "Cougar Town" and "The Soul Man" and long-time "Devious Maids" supervising producer Brian Tanen to help Cherry run the show for season three.

Inspired by a Mexican telenovela entitled "Ellas son la Alegria del Hogar," the series focuses on the lives of four Latin American maids working for rich families in Beverly Hills while struggling to reach their own personal goals.

The series features Ana Ortiz as the central character Marisol Suarez-Deering, Dania Ramirez as Rosie Westmore, Roselyn Sanchez as Carmen Luna, Judy Reyes as Zoila Diaz, Edy Ganem as Valentina Diaz, Rebecca Wisocky as Evelyn Powell, Rom Irwin as Adrian Powell, Grant Show as Spence Westmore, Drew Van Ackeras as Remi Delatour, Susan Lucci as Genevieve Delatour, and Mariano Klaveno as Peri Westmore.

"Devious Maids" had a stellar season one premiere, earning a total of two million viewers during its debut. The second season also did well in the ratings department, as a total of three million viewers were recorded in the season finale.

Aside from Cherry, another "Desperate Housewives" star is involved in the series. Eva Longoria works as one of the executive producers of the show, and she even made her directorial debut during the pilot episode of season two.
