'Destiny' 2 sequel release date in 2017

Activision formally laid out during its recently concluded quarterly earnings call their plans for "Destiny," including a major expansion and the highly anticipated sequel.

According to the company's press release, "Activision Publishing, along with its partners at Bungie, expects to bring a large new expansion to Destiny in 2016 and to release a full game sequel in 2017."

Bungie also talked about the upcoming offerings for "Destiny" on their website, where community manager DeeJ reminded players that they already talked about the second, bigger update that is scheduled to come out in Spring.

"That content release will feature a significant Light increase, a bunch of new gear to earn and equip, and new challenges for PvE players seeking some more fun experiences and replayability," the community manager said.

However, the details for the large update that is scheduled to come out in spring are still under wraps. According to the post, players must wait to hear more updates about it in the coming months.

The post mentioned that the game developers are concentrating on the creation of the expansion, as well as the full "Destiny" sequel that is slated to come out in 2017.

While both Activision and Bungie remain mum about the details of the "Destiny" sequel, rumors claim that the game could be possibly called "Destiny 2: The Shattered Suns."

The rumors, which were first discussed in a Reddit post, mentioned that it will be a "completely new game" where players will still use the characters that they play with in the original game. It will also reportedly concentrate on Osiris and his adventures as the primary quest giver in the upcoming game.

At the moment, both the game developer and publisher have yet to confirm the details of the planned sequel of "Destiny."
