'Covert Affairs' season 6 renewed? Petition grows

Annie (Piper Perabo) and Auggie (Christopher Gorham) returns this November for the remaining six episodes of Covert Affairs.USA Network

After five seasons, it is time to say goodbye to Annie Walker and the rest of the gang in "Covert Affairs." Well, it had to end sooner or later. Fans, however, are hoping for the latter, and now that USA Network has cancelled the show, they have made a move to try to bring their favorite show back.

TV Line confirmed the news, that "Covert Affairs" will no longer return for another season. But the looming question right now is, was the season 5 finale enough to make it the series finale? Executive producer Chris Ord doesn't think it is.

Season 5 ended with Annie thinking of Ryan's marriage proposal as well as the job offer from Joan. It's a cliffhanger that needs an answer, an answer that is expected to come out in season 6. But since the show was given the red light, there's nothing else to be done. Still, even if Ord believes that the season 5 finale isn't a good series ending, he's happy with their work.

"We want the show to continue ... We're very proud of this finale. So at least we feel if we didn't come back, we'd be going out on a high note. We don't really like to think about it in those terms," he told TV Line last month.

Nonetheless, Ord and the cast members have accepted USA Network's decision and has tweeted their thanks and farewell to the fans. Their tweets are as follows:

  • Ord: "Sad to not be continuing our #CovertAffairs journey together. thanks to USA, UCP, and all of you wonderful fans for your love & support!"
  • Matthew Corman: "#CovertAffairs fans - We loved making the show for you. It has been an amazing journey. Your support & passion mean everything xoxo – MC"
  • Piper Parabo: "Thanks for all love for @CovertAffairs I will miss it but am so happy to have made so many great friends through it. Love you guys, xp"
  • Peter Gallagher: "Thanks to all for a great run on #CovertAffairs. I'll miss those ops covert and otherwise and you. See you on the next one!"

But the fans haven't accepted the show's fate at all. In fact, one of the loyal fans has started an online petition to bring back the series. It has close to 300 signatures now, with the goal of gaining 100,000 signatures. "Covert Affairs" fans are hoping to get support as massive as that of "Longmire" and "Witches of East End."
