Tributes have been pouring in following the tragic death of a Staffordshire church worker after she fell from the church's tower.

Paramedics and police officers were called to St Giles' Church, Whittington, near Lichfield last week after workmen discovered the body of Mrs Becky Wigley, 57, the church's treasurer, shortly after 10.00am last Thursday.

The Vicar of Whittington, the Rev John Martin, said: "The church community is in a state of shock."

He led the tributes saying: "Becky was a much-loved member of our community and served as church treasurer very conscientiously and diligently for many years."

He added: "She will be greatly missed and my thoughts and prayers are with her family at this distressing time."

Staffordshire police are not treating the death as suspicious and are preparing a report for HM Coroner.
