When pastor and some members of his church went out to fish for their dinner, what greeted them on the shoreline was a little more than they had bargained for.

It seems they weren't the only ones with food on their minds as they turned up at Cape Lookout National Seashore to find that dozens of sharks had had the same idea.

Pastor Donnie Griggs, of One Harbor Church in North Carolina, filmed what the group reckoned to be over a hundred sharks indulging in a feeding frenzy.

The group had gone to the beauty spot to fish for their evening meal last Thursday.

The extraordinary footage shows the sharks just metres out from the shore and some even being washed up on the sand as they feast on a school of blue fish.

The clip has clocked up over a million views on YouTube after being uploaded by Brian Recker and shows seagulls and pelicans making the most of the sharks' meal time too. 

The details below the video say the men witnessed the frenzy while at a retreat at Cape Lookout National Seashore off the coast of North Carolina. 

Recker described Griggs as an "avid waterman who spearfishes, dives, swims and surfs at Cape Lookout often". 

"We want it to be clear that Cape Lookout and the surrounding beaches of Eastern North Carolina are extremely safe for swimming. The presence of these sharks and large schools of fish is actually a sign of a very healthy ecosystem," said Recker.
