Hundreds of Christians from all around the world gathered in Israel on Sunday to pray for peace for the nation, which God calls His own in the Holy Bible, and where Jesus Christ was born and spread His teachings.

According to a report by Charisma News, the believers held the prayer event called "The Day of Prayer for Peace of Jerusalem" at the Tayelet Haas Promenade overlooking Israel's capital city.

The event was started in 2002 by Evangelical Christian leaders Rev. Robert Stearns, Dr. Jack W. Hayford and Dr. Paul Cedar to unite the faithful around the world into praying for God's blessing, purpose and provisions to the people of Israel.

The prayer gathering was also witnessed by 300 million viewers from 192 countries across the globe through a global television broadcast facilitated by GOD TV. Even Christian believers from remote villages gathered in grass huts to participate in the prayer event.

In welcoming the participants of the day of prayer in Israel, Reverend Stearns noted how more and more Christians are joining the prayer event every year.

"Year after year, we continue to see Christians rising up and standing with God's covenant with Israel, and agreeing with God's promises for the seed of Abraham, both Isaac and Ishmael. Pastors all over the nations are leading their congregations to support and pray for the peace of Jerusalem and all her inhabitants," Stearns said, as quoted by Charisma News.

One of the participants in the event, Israel Allies Foundation Executive Vice-President Joshua Reinstein meanwhile noted how the prayer event is a way of fulfilling God's Will, which He stated very clearly in the Holy Bible's Old Testament.

"When we pray for Jerusalem we are praying what God wants ... He wants us to keep Jerusalem close to our hearts," Reinstein said.

Even members of the Jewish community participated in the prayer gathering. Minister of Knesset, Rabbi Yehuda Glick, challenged the attendees: "We are seeing the word coming out of the book as we sit here...what was, is now happening. Each of us needs to be a flame in a menorah and burn bright for Jerusalem."
