Outspoken Christian athlete Lolo Jones slammed the hit film "50 Shades of Grey" in a series of tweets published on Tuesday. 

The film, which is based on a best-selling book by EL James, grossed over $300 million in just one week, but Jones criticised those who watched the movie. 

"Funny how some people think there's nothing wrong with 50 shades of Grey," she began. "God didn't create sex for that purpose. Watch another movie."

The film follows an inexperienced, female undergraduate student as she explores bondage, sadomasochism, submission, and other fetishes with a wealthy businessman. Jones panned the movie's themes.

"Some ppl medicate pain by being more and more physical to where if they are ever alone they can't feel any peace," she explained. 

The Olympic track and field athlete has been open about her plan to remain abstinent until marriage, and said that her chosen path is not easy.

"It's just something, a gift I want to give my husband," Jones, 32, told HBO's "Real Sports" in 2012. 

"But please understand that this journey has been hard," she continued. "There are virgins out there and I'm going to let them know, it's the hardest thing I've ever done in my life.

"Harder than training for the Olympics. Harder than graduating from college."

In a controversial move, outspoken Christian quarterback Russell Wilson watched "50 Shades of Grey" and tweeted that it was a "great movie."

After receiving backlash from fans who questioned the compatibility of his faith and his praise for the film, he defended himself in another tweet.

"Saw a movie filmed in the town I call home," he said.

"Provocative/disturbing no doubt but that does not make me less Faithful. Have a blessed day!"
