The Children's Society and Premier Radio are uniting today for a London Bridges Walk that will raise money to help children at risk on the streets.
Some 3,000 people will take part in the 5 mile walk with Premier's Dave Rose, while it will be broadcast live. Over £100,000 is expected to be raised.
This coincides with London Week of Peace, which kicked off last Monday as ninety community leaders gathered for a Peace through Diversity' meeting at the headquarters of the Greater London Authority.
Discussing what makes peace possible in the city, the delegates, including Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Tom Godwin, developed strategies to strengthen unity amongst diverse communities.
The meeting marked the commencement of events comprising the eight-day festival taking place across the capital organised by the Peace Alliance and the Metropolitan Police.
Prime Minister Tony Blair said: "It is an important initiative to give Londoners from all backgrounds the chance to come together, to strengthen communities and make this city a safer place to live in."
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Ian Blair added: "Raising the profile of community safety and cohesion in response to issues of violence is crucial if we are to sustain success in the long term."
The Week of Peace is said to be an excellent example of what can be achieved by working together.
In connection to the week, the London Peace Rally was held yesterday at Trafalgar Square, including live satellite links with Nobel Peace Prize Laureates.
