Dr. Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) will put his entire career on the line in his mission to save a dying patient in the upcoming episode of the NBC series "Chicago Med."

In "Choices," Spoilers Guide reports that Gaffney will face a lawsuit after Halstead refused to abide by the patient's request for a "do-not-resuscitate" action when it's time for her to pass away. Halstead's decision will earn him strong reactions from the hospital and his colleagues, as it is a direct rejection of the family's expressed wish. It may even cause him to be terminated from the job.

The promo released by NBC shows Halstead reminding the other doctors that it is their job to save lives. The patient, a woman who has been battling cancer, is clearly dying. When she tells Halstead that she does not want to be revived, Halstead looks at her queerly, as if trying to understand why she will choose to let go of life that easily. The scene cuts to the doctor telling the patient that there is a new drug that can be a "game changer," but the woman tells him no. She just cannot bear the pain anymore.

When she flatlined, Halstead proceeded to resuscitate her. Dr. Manning (Torrey DeVitto) asks him what he is doing, but he just brushes her away. What follows is a standoff, with Halstead asking for a clear signal and Manning commanding him to stop. He does not listen to her, as he is determined to save the patient, even if it means not following the protocol. The next thing that viewers see is Sharon (S. Epatha Merkerson) telling Halstead that she is terminating him, while the doctor looks resigned with the verdict. Is this the end of Halstead's career in Gaffney?
