The new "Carmageddon: Reincarnation" title has finally finished its Steam Early Access run, and is now out as a full release.

A game that was originally released in 1997, the first "Carmageddon" title caused uproar around the world when it was launched. "Carmageddon: Reincarnation" then started out as a fundraising campaign on Kickstarter in 2012, gathering $625,000; and in 2013, developer Stainless Games poured an additional $3.5 million.

Summing up the development from the original game, developer Stainless Games said on the Steam Community page

So what have we done to update the game that was not only one of the most controversial titles of its day, but also the most innovative and technically advanced of its generation?

"Well, controversy is pretty hard to whip up these days, but we are still proudly offering you the chance to turn pedestrians into points (which continues to get certain sections of society hot under the collar) using your car or a whole host of hilarious ped pulping Powerups."

The latest destruction-derby style title has both single-player Career Mode and multiplayer modes. For single players, the game offers 16 chapters with three to four events per chapter. The multiplayer mode, on the other hand, allows up to eight players with either online or LAN connectivity, and gamers can choose from six event types.

Game events include Car Crusher, Classic Carmageddon, Checkpoint Stampede, Fox 'n' Hounds, Death Race, and the overly-intriguing Ped Chase. The events span nine maps and 36 racing routes, and players will have 24 rides to choose from. For those who pledged in the Kickstarter campaign, a special edition bonus vehicle is also available.

Prior to the full launch, Stainless Games has been hosting weekly multiplayer lobbies for those who availed of the title on Steam Early Access.
