One of Hollywood's most influential couples met royalty on Friday, June 26, when Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie had tea with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. 

According to Us Weekly, the two couples met for the first time at Kensington Palace. A palace spokesman told the website that they met at the palace on Friday afternoon. 

"They discussed their shared interest in combatting the illegal wildlife trade," added the spokesman.

Pitt and Jolie reportedly flew to London earlier in the morning so that the mother of six can attend a lunch at the Foreign Commonwealth Office. It was part of her work on U.K. foreign policy and her involvement in an ongoing campaign to end sexual violence in war zones. 

According to an Us Weekly source, Jolie joined her husband at around 3:45 p.m. and headed to Kensington Palace for the informal meeting. The insider added that the royals were "really excited" about the afternoon tea and that Prince William and Kate Middleton were joined by Prince George as they waited outside their apartment to greet the Hollywood couple. The six Jolie-Pitt children were also in London at the time but were not present at the meeting. 

Jolie and Pitt didn't arrive empty-handed and reportedly brought a gift for the royals' daughter Princess Charlotte, who was born in May. 

"Everyone got on splendidly," said the source. "Brad and Angelina spent much longer with the Duke and Duchess than planned. They ended up staying for almost a few hours." 

In October last year, Queen Elizabeth II made Jolie an Honorary Dame Commander at a private Buckingham Palace ceremony for her humanitarian work. The monarch herself received the Oscar-winning actress, who was accompanied to the palace by her husband and their children. Because she is not a U.K. citizen, Jolie may not be addressed as Dame although she can use the initials DCMG after her name.
