BlackBerry ventures forth into the smartphone market with the impending arrival of their new device known as Priv.

In case anyone is wondering, Priv is shorthand for both privilege and privacy, according to BlackBerry CEO John Chen.

Aside from having a unique name, the BlackBerry Priv also offers something different in the way of how it looks and how it works.

The smartphone has a curved, 5.5-inch touchscreen display, not unlike many of the other models available on the market, but what makes it different is its sliding QWERTY keyboard. The keyboard does not figure to be much of a hindrance, according to CNet, as it is fairly slim and can be withdrawn and tucked away with relative ease.

The specs of the BlackBerry Priv are harder to pin down as the company has yet to provide official details regarding that matter.

Still, there are rumors suggesting what possible specs the new phone might have, and among those is one saying the BlackBerry Priv will most likely be equipped with a Snapdragon 808 processor as well as a hexa-core chipset, according to N4BB. It's worth noting that other outlets, such as the aforementioned CNet, have speculated that the phone will feature something more along the lines of a Snapdragon 810 processor paired with an octa-core chipset.

The BlackBerry Priv is also expected to feature an 18-megapixel rear camera, but that's not its most interesting feature. On top of all those pixels is the capability of the camera to record 4K video, or at least that's what is being reported for now.

As for when prospective buyers might be able to get their hands on BlackBerry's latest offering, the company has yet to provide an exact release date, although it is expected to come out just before the start of the holiday season, to the possible delight of many tech fans everywhere.
