The General Secretary of the Bible Society in Lebanon has stated that the ceasefire reached in Lebanon “is nothing short of a miracle”.

Mike Bassous told that even though many lives were lost, endless buildings and communities destroyed, thousands displaced from their homes, now abruptly the bombings have stopped and the guns have become silent.

Staff of Bible Society in Lebanon worked through the siege that lasted over a month. Now the siege is finally over they remain hard at work to deliver relief packages and support the people.

Mike Bassous said, “After being kept out of south Lebanon for more than 30 years, the Lebanese army starts its deployment of 15,000 troops in the area. This is good news and will spread stability on the southern border.

“Our teams go to south Lebanon, Jezzine and Sidon to distribute relief packages, while Bible World hosts more children still displaced in Beirut. After five days we can truly witness that this ceasefire is a miracle from God.”

During the war, Bible Society in Lebanon remained focused on supporting the local people. Their offices remained open a few hours a day and despite the challenge of finding petrol during the siege, children were transported and hosted regularly at Bible World, their interactive Bible expedition.

There are now signs that the land, air and sea siege are loosening as supplies of petrol and fuel are allowed in to the country.

Staff of Bible Society in Lebanon are grateful for the prayer support received during the siege. They have sent out a message of thanks as they prepare to do more to take the Bible’s message of hope and life to the people of Lebanon.

Bassous said, “While jet fighters were destroying all the bridges in our country, we were building bridges of another kind. The rare opportunity has been presented to us, to serve displaced families. This is opening doors of new ministry that were unavailable under normal circumstances. We give thanks for the many that are lifting this country and its people in their prayers.”
