The Bible Society has been highly active over the past month, having a presence at all three of the main UK party political conferences. The Bible Society has held fringe events across the country, with MPs and party activists gathering to speak on how and why Christians speak out in politics.

The fringe meetings were held under the title, “Mind Your Language – Exploring Faith, Politics and the Media”.

The Bible Society’s Parliamentary Officer, Dr David Landrum said, “It was great to see so many people at all three events. The events provided an opportunity for us to talk about how Christians engage with politics. It is so important that we work together to do this effectively.”

The Liberal Democrat event was introduced by Alistair Carmichael MP, and David Landrum also spoke about the relationship between politics and the media.

At the Labour Party gathering, Stephen Timms CP chaired, and brought attendees to focus on the responsibility of Christian politicians in using the correct language in the political sphere.

Finally, at the Conservative Party event, Mark Greene, the Director of the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity spoke. The gathering was introduced by Gary Streeter MP, and highlighted the need to halt the decline of political language.

Following these fringe events, a Parliamentary Symposium will be held in May 2006.

Also recently the Bible Society has launched a new one-stop online facility for purchasing Bible resources. Bibles, study guides and multimedia products designed to build understanding and share the power of God’s Story are featured on its website www.bibleresources.org.uk.

Bibles are also offered in over seventy languages. Users may search for specific items using categories such as educational resources, church resources and gift Bibles.

“We are delighted that people across the country can use this new resource and have instant access to some of the best Bible resources available. Each product is carefully chosen to help people enage with and share the passion of the Bible,” said Richard Dlucik, Bible Society Resources’s Trading Manager.

The Bible Society is a Christian charity dedicated to making the Bible heard all over the world. The Society aims to build bridges between the Bible and people’s everyday lives.
