New video games in 2015: Bloodborne, Metal Gear Solid V, The Witcher 3, Final Fantasy 15, Halo 5: Guardians and more

2014 for gaming was phenomenal. Although there existed a number of setbacks, the year brought exceptional titles like "Assassin's Creed Unity," "Destiny," "Titanfall" and "Dark Souls 2." Digital shelves in 2015 will bring even more grand titles to the table, and the new year is nothing but a promising one for the gaming industry. Packed and teeming with brand new games, refreshes, and great-looking indie installments, the coming year might just be the greatest one yet.

In the first months, gamers will be able to get their hands on the PS4-exclusive title, "Bloodborne." For players who enjoyed the "Souls" franchise, this upcoming title will not be difficult to love. With combat set at a faster pace, and missions that put players in sinister dungeons to face even more menacing monsters, this title, which will launch on March 24, is easily the one to watch.

To be available on all gaming platforms is the game pitted to conquer the year of gaming. "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" will be released in March and the hype has not faltered since the announcement of its existence. Kojima Productions' upcoming open world action-adventure stealth video game is believed to be the finest in its array. That is saying something, as all of "Metal Gear" installments are nothing but immaculate.

The gaming kingdom was once ruled by "The Witcher" franchise. A glorious return will be staged this coming year with the release of "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt." Admittedly, the string of postponements has gotten a bit off-putting, but gamers know that more waiting time equates to a more epic title. It already looked unspoiled and beautiful when players first laid eyes on it, but the real awesomeness will start once players assume the role of monster hunter Geralt of Rivia, who is bound to navigate through the massive open fantasy world plagued with horrendous creatures and larger-than-life quests. By May 19, this game will find its way to the PS4 and Xbox One consoles.

"Halo 5: Guardians" is roughly 365 days away but many feel the need to include it in the coolest game list. The Xbox multiplayer title is made more complex with the new-fangled gameplay mechanics. Add to that the gunplay that players first loved about the franchise. In this installment, Master Chief embarks on a whole new mission, which will have Spartan Locke tailing and foiling.

"Star Wars" fans have so many treats coming their way this coming year that one would think 2015 is all for them. One is the much-awaited film that will continue the saga, "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens." The other is an action-packed video game, "Star Wars: Battlefront." Details about the next-gen console game are shrouded in mystery at the moment, but gamers have faith in game developer DICE that the title will meet their expectations.

What's a 2015 game list without "Final Fantasy XV"? This game has tested the fortitude of fans and it proves that the wait will be worth it with the adventures that lay in wait. When classic and modern get married, this title sprouts. The game merges the spellbound world loaded with monsters, magic and swords with big guns, dapper business suits and nice-looking cars.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

The legendary female swashbuckler will be back next year with the reboot of the 2013 title "Tomb Raider." With the fresh installment titled "Rise of the Tomb Raider," new quests are promised but Crystal Dynamics has not detailed most of it. It will be available on Xbox One initially and will quickly extend to PS4.

The Wii U game to look forward to in 2015 is "The Legend of Zelda." With an open world so massive it renders the words "mammoth" and "gargantuan" inadequate, players have another reason to be excited with the fact that monsters and quests will all be set in HD resolution. This is the first on the series and this is the best yet for fans of the franchise, too.

And then there's "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End." Fans hold on to the impressive history of its developer, Naughty Dog. "The Last of Us" was a stellar title, which makes it impossible that the return of an older version of the buccaneer, Nathan Drake, will be any less extraordinary.

Other games that will make a splash next year are "Batman: Arkham Knight," "Heroes of the Storm," "Persona 5," "Tom Clancy's The Division," "No Man's Sky" and "Mortal Kombat X."
