'Bates Motel' season 5 spoilers, release date: relationship between Dylan and Norman forever altered

A&E

"Bates Motel" season 4 ended with the sudden death of Norma Bates (Vera Farmiga) and it was all Norman's (Freddie Highmore) doing as he intentionally caused the poisonous gas to leak with the hopes that both he and his mother would die. Actor Max Thieriot, who plays Norman's brother Dylan, reveals that this action would greatly alter Dylan and Norman's relationship in season 5.

"When he finds out - if he finds out - that Norman killed his mom, how does that affect them? Can he ever forgive him for doing that? I think that Norman and Dylan's relationship has played on a lot of give and take and this kind of bond is what brings them closer than anything," Thieriot told ShowBiz Junkies.

The actor also explained that there is the lingering question on whether Dylan could ever forgive Norman for what the latter did. He further explains that in the past the two brothers have had their differences but were always able to work past them yet the death of Norma may be something that could be too big for Dylan to just brush aside.

Another important detail that Thieriot delves into is in regards to Dylan's reaction when he finds out that Norma's dead. How Dylan will react and what he may do in response to this is still a big mystery. Thieriot also points out that Norma's death may also affect Dylan and Emma's (Olivia Cooke) relationship although he did reveal how or why.

When asked whether he has seen the script for season 5 Thieriot said no although they are going to begin production by this September. He also confirmed that he had been approached to direct an episode and this will be his directorial debut. The season will also be introducing Rihanna as Marion Crane, further tying the series with the film "Psycho."

"Bates Motel" returns for its fifth and final season in 2017.
