'Avatar 2' release news: Avatar theme park reveals details about sequel

20th Century Fox

"Avatar 2's" release was moved from 2016 to December 2017. However, the much-awaited sequel to the original blockbuster flick is moving along. During Disney's D23 event, more details about the "Avatar" theme park has been revealed and from those, information about the movie also emerged.

Posters for the theme park shown during the event revealed what the world of Pandora holds. It was hinted that the planet will be home to "banshees" that thrive in a "rich natural environment with mountains that float and interactive plants that glow at night."

The theme park inspired by the wondrous new "Avatar 2" world was designed by Walt Disney Imagineering in collaboration with filmmaker James Cameron and Lightstorm Entertainment. Construction of the theme park began earlier this year.

Previously, there were rumors that "Avatar 2" will take fans to Pandora's underwater wonders. However, the director has already clarified that while the film will show what Pandora looks like below the surface, it won't be the focus of the movie.

Cameron and his team are working very hard to create a spectacle out of what lies beneath Pandora's oceans, even if it will just be a glimpse. Back in 2012, the director has promised that they were exerting their best efforts in perfecting this portion of the realm.

"The fact that we're basically overfishing, climate change ... a few degrees of temperature rise are gonna basically take out the coral reefs," the director told Comingsoon.net. "All those beautiful images of the coral environments we all grew up with won't exist in 50 years at the rate we're going in terms of pumping greenhouse gases into the environment. These are the things that concern me."

"Avatar 2" will be shown in 2017. A follow-up film, tentatively called "Avatar 3," is slated for a 2019 release. The theme park, officially called Pandora: The World of Avatar is expected to be open to the public before "Avatar 2" is released.
