Sony and Apple released their flagship smartphones in September. Both were well-received for distinct reasons. The iPhone 6 was the first sizeable smartphone Apple has ever released and the idea of a bigger iPhone with a more potent performance was welcomed positively. The Sony Xperia Z3, on the other hand, is taking over the arena with its knockout specs. USA Today was extremely happy with it that it claimed it to be 'the best phone money can buy." The iPhone 6 and the Xperia Z3 are superior in their own right, which is why a showdown is necessary.

Both handsets look sleek and slender. The Sony offering is of a rounded aluminum frame and a glossy backside with a unibody that measures 7.3 mm. The iPhone 6 is caked with aluminum as well, but with a much thinner 6.9 mm build, making it one of the slimmest smartphones in existence. The Xperia Z3 comes with a 5.2-inch Full HD display that renders a 1920 x 1080 screen resolution and a 424 pixel density. In short, Xperia Z3 exudes sharp rich display. The iPhone 6, on the other hand, features a 4.7-inch Retina HD Display that delivers a 750 x 1334 pixel resolution and a 326 pixel density. The new technology that comes with the Retina has the iPhone 6 displaying crisp visuals as well.

Under Xperia Z3's hood dwells a 2.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor that allows the handset to perform at high-speed. It is then paired up with 3 GB of RAM and a 16 GB or 32 GB storage capacity. The iPhone 6 packs a quad-core Apple A8 processor clocked in at 1.4 GHz. This is where the iPhone 6 owes its power and speed, with a guarantee of a lag-free experience when launching and using apps even though it only sports 1 GB of RAM and a 16 GB, 64 GB or 128 GB memory.

In the camera department, both are impressive. Xperia Z3 boasts a 20.7-megapixel rear-facing shooter. USA Today loves its camera sensor, which helps them produce photos of higher resolution. It also has a 2.2-megapixel front camera. The iPhone 6 received gracious reviews about its camera capabilities. With its seemingly inferior 8-megapixel rear-facing snapper, the Apple flagship can give its users an awesome photo fix. Nevertheless, Apple enthusiasts hope for a drastic upgrade for it as this is the area the Cupertino company has not given much attention.

The Xperia Z3 uses a 3100 mAh battery, which promises to last up to 16 hours on a single charge. The iPhone 6 allows 14 hours of usage with its 1810 mAh battery. One notable feature the Sony Xperia Z3 has over the iPhone 6 is being waterproof and dustproof. This means that swimming with it and even taking snaps while engaging in water activities are possible. The Apple handset, on the other hand, guarantees better security with the integration of a Touch ID fingerprint scanner.

The Sony smartphone is priced at $630. T-Mobile users can get a hold of it with a two-year contract and a $26.25 monthly payment. As per GSM Arena, the iPhone 6 holds the same $630 price tag.
