Android Marshmallow update: New Android M version will include other Xperia Z2, Z3 variants

Sony Mobile's official blog

Sony Mobile is one of the early tech manufacturers to adopt an Android update roadmap for its flagships, even opening a new Concept Android for Xperia beta program. However, the full version has rolled out only to one version each for the base models of the Xperia Z-series flagships.

It seems Sony Mobile is not yet finished with the update, though. It is said that the Android Marshmallow update continues with the full lineup this time.

According to XperiaBlog, Sony Mobile has recently expanded the 6.0.1 Android version update to include almost all of the iterations in the different Xperia Z-series lineups. Aside from the Xperia Z2 (D6503), Z3 (D6603) and Z3 Compact (D5803), the new Android platform with firmware build number 23.5.A.0.570 is also now releasing to other Xperia Z-series iterations like the D5833 model of the Z3 Compact and the D6646, D6653 versions of the the Xperia Z3.

The Android Marshmallow update is also now live for the Xperia Z3 Dual, the Xperia Z2 HSPA+ version, and the three model versions (SGP511, SGP512, SGP521) of the Xperia Z2 Tablet.

This means that to date, most of the iterations in the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 family have been included in the Android 6.0.1 update.

Users should receive an OTA update on their devices for the firmware download. Otherwise, they can also manually check if the update is already available via the Settings tab. The FTF firmware files are also already available online, for a manual update and flashing for tech-savvy users.

With the rollout already releasing to most of the lineups, Phone Arena observes that the only iteration in the lineups without a definite update is the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. It remains to be seen if Sony Mobile will be releasing an Android 6.0.1 update for the device, seeing as it is not included in the original list of Android M update-capable devices.
