Samsung continues to work with its partners to roll out the latest Android platform to its devices. The latest carrier to update its flagship list is AT&T, as reports circulate that the carrier-locked Galaxy S6 is now updating to Android Marshmallow.

According to Android Police, owners of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge under an AT&T contract have reported receiving OTA notifications for an update to the latest Android platform, going up from the original Android Lollipop version. The update will roll out on a staggered basis, so it will take some time for all the devices under the carrier to be updated to Android Marshmallow. Meanwhile, the new platform version brings stock Google and carrier-specific Android 6.0 improvements to the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, and also reportedly deletes some bloatware apps.

The follower mentioned that since there already are new apps integrated in Android 6.0 with the same features, the Keeper, Facebook Messenger, and AT&T Live were removed with the update. Meanwhile, other carrier apps like YP Mobile and AT&T Mail were moved to "virtual preload," so users can now uninstall the apps even without rooting the device.

Android Authority reports that the update weighs around 1.5 GB, being a major platform update. Meanwhile, those who have yet to receive the OTA notification can already check if the update is available to their devices by manually refreshing the About Device option in the Settings tab of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

The AT&T update to Android Marshmallow is welcome news to its subscribers, given that the carrer is among the last ones to roll it out. T-Mobile, Sprint, and others have already released their Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge updates previously. However, carrier-locked devices being updated late is already a norm in a major Android roll-out. Carriers and tech manufacturers build their own versions of the platform, only using the stock Google ROM as a template.
