The Android 6.0 Marshmallow has been pegged to come out soon, and select Motorola phones are expected to be among the Android-powered phones getting the update pretty soon.

Motorola revealed the list of handsets that will be getting the Android update. The phones reportedly said to be due for an Android Marshmallow push include:

  • 2015 Moto X Pure Edition (3rd gen)
  • 2015 Moto X Style (3rd gen)
  • 2015 Moto X Play
  • 2015 Moto G (3rd gen)
  • 2014 Moto X Pure Edition in the United States (2nd gen)
  • 2014 Moto X in Latin America, Europe and Asia (2nd gen)
  • 2014 Moto G and Moto G with 4G LTE (2nd gen)
  • DROID Turbo
  • 2014 Moto MAXX
  • 2014 Moto Turbo

Word had it that the Moto X 2014 could be getting it as well, but it seems that all rumors pertaining to the handset getting an Android 6.0 push have been quashed.

Such was confirmed by a Motorola representative at the Motorola forums, stating that the AT&T and Verizon versions will not be getting the Marshmallow update. It thus joins the same fate of the Moto E, which is not expected to get the Android OS update.

Could this be a setback for Motorola users who were hoping to get some taste of the Android Marshmallow 6.0 and its budding list of features? But then again, there are some who are leaving a flicker of hope that the rep misspoke on the matter.

An update for the Moto X 2014 would have been neat, particularly for the ones who have had it for almost a year.

The confirmation has, of course, left some to doubt on what the basis of the rep is; just the same, it wouldn't hurt not to expect. Besides, there are other ways to resort to like custom ROMs, that is if Moto X and Moto E users want a piece of Android Marshmallow love, although with risks involved.

Hence, for the ones following this route, remember to back up your phone first before proceeding.
