Amir Khan may have questionable chances against Saúl "Canelo" Alvarez but financially, it could be the better option.

Khan surprised many when he was suddenly revealed as the Mexican boxing champion's opponent for May. The announcement was seen coming, considering that it was a possible Khan vs. Kell Brook fight that was in the minds of many.

As it turned out, negotiations may have turned a bit sour, leading Khan to opt for a better payday.

Khan reveals via the Guardian that he was initially offered £10 million to face Brook, but those numbers were cut back as the two camps were negotiating. The southpaw seemed to be fine in the financial aspect until Hearn and company allegedly came back and said they are unable to offer him that big of an amount.

This revelation follows earlier claims by the camp of Brook that Khan wanted an 80–20 split of the fight purse. Hearn came back offering a 60–40 split and that was where everything stopped until the announcement of the Alvarez vs. Khan fight.

According to Khan, it was when the Brook camp made him look bad by overvaluing himself where he walked away from possible fight talks.

With both parties unable to come to an agreement, the celebrated "Battle of Britain" may have to take place some other time.

Brook is set to defend his title this March against Kevin Bizier and it remains to be seen what he plans after that.

For Khan, he will be tipping the scales at catchweight that many question. He is seen as a big underdog against a bigger opponent, although Khan isn't about to back down and be overwhelmed by it.

He points out his speed as something working to his advantage. As far as overcoming a bigger Alvarez, he hopes to draw out the same performance he had in Athens Olympics 12 years ago where he made it all the way to the finals despite not being given much of a chance to survive in his weight class.
