'Agents of SHIELD' season 4 spoilers: Daisy Johnson is a lot darker

"Agents of SHIELD" season 3 ended with the core team going their separate ways and Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet) going rogue and on the run. According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, by season 4 she will be in a much darker, grittier mindset than before given the circumstances she went through and due to survivor's guilt.

"The two people who know she did that are both dead, so no one else knows," explained Bennet about Daisy's state of mind. "There must be a moment coming up in the next season where she reveals that. I think she feels like she can't get close to people because wherever she goes, death follows. That hit home with her, especially this time."

During the third season, Daisy was momentarily under the influence of the villain Hive, who had taken over the body of her former ally and then turned villain Ward (Brett Dalton). Unbeknownst to her allies, when she recovered and discovered the damage she had done she almost cowered back to Hive instead of living with guilt.

Screen Rant points out that Bennet's statement indicates that the fourth season, which now has a later timeslot, may be a bit darker and bit more violent in order to suit the tone of Daisy's transformation. It will also allow the show to quickly adapt to the potential introduction of Hellfire or Ghost Rider, characters rumored to be introduced soon.

The report points out that the more important detail will be about Daisy's path of redemption following her fall into a darker state of mind. After going through guilt and depression, a potential story of Daisy finding new meaning and purpose in life is stated to draw compelling drama instead of letting the show be dark just for the sake of it.

"Agents of SHIELD" season 4 will premiere this coming Sept. 20 on ABC.
