On Saturday 11th Feb, over 800 young people from all over the UK and Republic of Ireland attended ALOVE’s national youth event – Devotion – at the Watford Colosseum.

The purpose of the event was to give young people the opportunity to come together for a dynamic day of live music, DJ’s, worship, prayer, theatre, dance and creativity – all designed specifically for a youth audience.

The day was held in two sessions. In the afternoon, Devotion staged a special production of ngm’s new musical ‘Luv Esther’, produced by Ray Goudie and directed by Murray Watts. Using pop, rock, dance, hip-hop and soaring ballads, Luv Esther took the audience on a journey through the biblical story of Esther. The show portrayed extraordinary devotion and courage, as Esther takes a stand for her people, and for what she believes, against all odds. The message of the show is that all can be ‘Esthers’; all can make a difference; and all are called for ‘such a time as this’.

The evening session, hosted by Janet Miles and Adam Knuckey explored what it means to live lives of devotion and vox pops were screened, in which young people shared what they were devoted to. The hosts also announced that there would be two new youth venues being held at the weekend-long Salvation Army ROOTS conference in May. Called ‘Blast’ and ‘Park Life’, the programmes are for 11-15s and 16+ respectively.
