The annual conference of the Christian Peoples Alliance party will hear an appeal by independent Irish Senator, Ronan Mullen, for the European Union to renew its Christian roots.

The pro-life media commentator and barrister, Senator Mullen is a vocal opponent of the EU's secular drift.

Earlier this year he was active in the 'No' campaign in the Irish referendum on the Lisbon Treaty, where he warned that the Christian Democratic principle of subsidiarity was threatened by the EU's shadow constitution.

The CPA is Britain's first party of Christian inspiration, linked to Christian Democratic parties around Europe. In recent local elections in London, in which it fought as the Christian Choice, the CPA won the highest vote of any party outside the London Assembly, outpolling both UKIP and Respect. The conference will also hear from
Paula Warren of the Christian Party, which fought the GLA elections alongside the Christian Peoples Alliance.

In a keynote address, Senator Mullen will say that Christian voters should back parties that put family issues first at next year's parliamentary elections to the European Union.

In what the Irish Times reported as a "sensational upset", Senator Mullen was elected in 2007 to Seanad Éireann to represent the graduates of the National University of Ireland. He is now a member of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Social and Family Affairs. A former Senior Communications Officer, Dublin Archdiocese (1996-2001), Senator Mullen frequently appeared as a spokesperson for the Archdiocese and Cardinal Connell during that period.

As a senator, he says he aims to be a consistent, constructive advocate for a society where every person is respected and for socially responsible policies in a globalised world.
