22-year-old admits murder of church organist

A 22-year-old man has admitted killing a church organist and much loved grandfather last year.

Alan Greaves, 68, was on his way to a midnight mass last Christmas Eve when he was attacked in the street.

Greaves suffered a serious head injury in the attack as he walked from his home to St Saviour's Church at High Green in Sheffield. He died three days later.

Appearing at Sheffield Crown Court today, Jonathan Bowling pleaded guilty to killing Greaves. Bowling will not be sentenced until the end of the trial.

Ashley Foster, 21, will also stand trial for the murder on 24 June. He denies the charge.
