One of God's Ten Commandments to the human race is clear: "Thou shall not kill." Sadly, more and more parents are disobeying this vital rule and choosing to end the lives of innocent unborn children.

The World Health Organisation and the American non-profit group Guttmacher Institute recently released a global report which revealed than one in every four pregnancies ended in abortion from 2010 to 2014, with teenage mothers found to be among those seeking to kill the babies inside their wombs.

"Because of population growth, the annual number of abortions worldwide increased by 5.9 million from 50.4 million in 1990–94 to 56.3 million in 2010–14," stated the report, published in the British medical journal "The Lancet."

The same study showed that abortion rates were virtually unchanged in developing nations, although there was an observable decrease in abortions in developed countries.

"In the developed world, the abortion rate declined 19 points, from 46 to 27. In the developing world, we found a non-significant 2 point decline in the rate from 39 to 37," the study explained, as quoted by Christian News Service.

Quite alarmingly, the research also stated that women as young as 15 years old are already seeking to kill their unborn children.

The study also revealed that married women were more inclined to end the innocent lives inside their wombs compared to unmarried women. Seventy-three percent of those who reported their abortions were already married, while only 27 percent were not.

In an interview with Christian Today, Nola Leach of Christian Action Research and Education (CARE) in London urged Christians to act more to protect the unborn.

"While the number of abortions in more developed countries has come down, the global figure is disturbingly high and a reminder of the international challenge we face in standing up for the unborn," Leach said.

"All too often, abortion is seen and sold as the only solution for mothers who are encouraged to view an unplanned pregnancy as a problem that needs solving," she added. "But we should be making sure mothers are fully aware that there are different options out there other than termination."
